XP drivers are known towork under Vista. When you upgrade to vista, Vista upgrade the driver store with it's build in drivers. If Vista finds a driver in its store that is newer than the one that is now on the system before you upgrade, Vista will over write the files.
This is the reason why things were ok under XP but now that you have Vista things are not great. Locate the drivers from the makers website and try and install that driver. When you install Vista over XP all the drivers are updated and this may psoe a problem under Vista.
